Equalizers
Equalization changes the relative level of frequency bands. A measured headphone profile can provide a useful starting point, but the target curve is not a verdict: fit, unit variation, hearing, listening level, and preference still matter.
A Maintainable Workflow
- Find the exact headphone model in AutoEq, or begin with a small manual correction when no trustworthy measurement exists.
- Export settings for an equalizer that supports the required filter type. AutoEq generates presets; it does not apply live audio processing itself.
- Apply negative preamp gain when boosts could cause clipping.
- Compare at matched loudness, then adjust gently for comfort and preference.
- Keep one named profile per device rather than repeatedly editing a global preset.
Current Hosts
| Platform | Option | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Wavelet | system-wide headphone correction with built-in AutoEq integration |
| macOS | eqMac | system audio equalization and per-application volume control |
| Other platforms and hardware | AutoEq's app guide | choosing a compatible parametric or graphic equalizer |
Recheck app compatibility before rebuilding a setup: operating-system audio routing and product features change more quickly than the equalization model.
